Reims, Épernay and the Vineyards: Tour in the Heart of Champagne

Reims, Épernay and the Vineyards: Tour in the Heart of Champagne
Experience an extraordinary personal day in Reims, Épernay, and their neighboring hamlets.

Exploration of the most celebrated vineyards and stunning locales of the region near Épernay, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Reims Cathedral, site of the French monarchs' investiture, a UNESCO designated area, is the initial crucial point of your sojourn in Champagne. Prior to granting you the chance to delve into its interior, your guide will elucidate the Cathedral’s history and enigmas.
In Épernay, the heart of the Champagne wine region, journey along the Avenue de Champagne, where the remarkable estates and production structures of the Champagne Houses Moët & Chandon, Perrier Jouët, Pol Roger, etc., reside. Uncover Grand Cru/Premier Cru vineyards and villages within the ancient slopes of Champagne, primarily cultivated with Pinot Noir, which were designated in 2015 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit a family of independent vintners with an explanation of the Champagne crafting process, an inspection of the press, winery, and cellar. The visit will be followed by a guided sampling of several of their Champagnes. In addition to the Champagnes, sample the three essential Champagne spirits and aperitifs: Ratafia, Fine de la Marne, and Marc de Champagne from the Goyard Distillery, the oldest in Champagne. The village of Aÿ-Champagne was the primary hub of the Champagne trade in the 16th century. The French kings possessed their own wine presses there, and the wines of Champagne were traditionally referred to as “Wines of Aÿ.” The vineyard is classified as Grand Cru, the highest tier of the Appellation. During our visit to a portion of this historical village and its renowned vineyard, we will discuss vineyard cultivation, the diverse grape varieties, the exceptional Terroir, and sustainable viticulture.
The tour incorporates a pause in front of the headquarters of the famous Champagne Houses in Aÿ, such as Bollinger, Deutz, and Ayala. While visiting Hautvillers, known as the “Birthplace of Champagne,” relish a private tour of the Church where the tomb of Dom Pérignon, considered the founding father of Champagne, is located.
In Hautvillers, we will pause to appreciate the most magnificent vista of Champagne, overlooking the Marne Valley, the setting where Dom Pérignon conducted his winemaking trials. It is the perfect spot in the midst of the vineyards to capture memorable photos of yourself and this breathtaking scenery.
For lunch, we have chosen Champagne and dining establishments favored by the locals to share this sociable occasion. On the menu, to accompany your Champagne glasses (a bottle for two), you may find gourmet platters of cured meats and cheese with bread and salad, prepared farm meals, regional pastries, and coffee.
