Rustic Tour of Chianti Classico: Iconic Estates and the Art of Fine Winemaking

Journey through the rolling hills of Chianti, where centuries-old winemaking traditions blend seamlessly with modern innovation. This full-day tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the contrasts of Tuscan viticulture, from the small, family-run Casa Emma to the renowned Castello Monterinaldi wine estate. Along the way, you’ll experience the perfect balance of cultural discovery and indulgent flavors.

Morning: Casa Emma – The Heart of Family Winemaking

Your adventure begins as your private driver collects you from your accomodation, whisking you away to the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Your first stop is Casa Emma, a rustic, family-owned estate. Nestled in the “San Donato in Poggio” area, Casa Emma embodies the intimate, hands-on approach to winemaking that characterizes many of Chianti's smaller producers.

As you arrive, you'll be greeted by a member of the family who will guide you through their vineyards and cellars. You'll learn about the family's sustainable farming practices and traditional winemaking techniques, which have been passed down through generations. The passion and personal touch in every aspect of their operation will provide a stark yet complementary contrast to the afternooon's experience.

Your visit culminates in a tasting of Casa Emma's wines, including their excellent Chianti Classico and perhaps their unique Vin Santo dessert wine. The intimate setting allows for a more personal interaction, allowing you to discuss the wines directly with those involved in their creation.

Traditional Lunch at Casa Emma

Following the tasting, you'll be treated to a tradtional three-course lunch paired with wine at Casa Emma. You'll be served a seasonal menu crafted from organic ingredients. Each course is thoughtfully paired with wines from the estate, allowing you to savor the harmonious blend of local cuisine and exceptional wines.

Afternoon: Tour and Tasting at Castello Monterinaldi

After lunch, your journey continues along the scenic roads of Chianti Classico. As you wind through the undulating hills, your driver will point out historic castles and charming hamlets that dot the landscape. With its patchwork of vineyards, olive groves, and cypress-lined lanes, this is your chance to absorb the timeless beauty of the Tuscan countryside.

Your route takes you to the renowned Castello Monterinaldi Winery, a historic estate dating back to 1010 AD. Named after Count Gottifredo, the castle has endured centuries of conflict, from medieval battles to World War II, yet still stands proudly as the heart of the estate. Winemaking today takes place at the nearby Villa Pesanella, where generations of passion and tradition shape every bottle. With 50 hectares of vineyards and a focus on classic varietals like Sangiovese and Canaiolo, Monterinaldi is a proud champion of Chianti Classico, producing wines that reflect the rich character of the land.

You’ll enjoy a private tour of Castello Monterinaldi Winery’s wine cellar, where you’ll learn about age-old winemaking techniques and taste a selection of local wines. You’ll discover how sustainability goes hand-in-hand with tradition at this estate: grapes are fermented and aged in steel, vitrified concrete, and French oak barrels, preserving the authentic profile of Chianti Classico while embracing modern methods that elevate quality. Inspired by their emblem, the turtle, Monterinaldi’s approach is one of thoughtful, steady progress, rooted in the belief that meaningful wine comes from deep respect for nature, heritage, and time.

After the wine tasting concludes, your driver will escort you back to your accomodation. As you make your way back, you’ll have time to reflect on Tuscany’s nature, history in wine production, and local charm.
