This path was at once a highway of emotions and a trade route for centuries before it was almost completely neglected due to modern roads. Only recently, this stretch has been retrieved from oblivion and is now popular among hikers. Explore the rural Tuscan area, still alive with its spellbinding castles, villages and ruins – like the fortress of Monteriggioni erected by Sienese in the 13th century to guard against Florence invaders. There you will taste some organic wines and have time to wander around on your own before taking the bus back to Siena which leaves every hour until sunset.
