Vatican Museums Exploration
Your tour begins in the Vatican Museums, home to an immense collection curated by Popes over centuries. The museums, founded in the early 16th century by Pope Julius II, now house over 70,000 works, of which 20,000 are on display.
You will visit the Pio-Clementine Museum, named after two popes who greatly expanded the collection. Here, you will see the Laocoön and His Sons, a masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture discovered in 1506 and immediately purchased by Pope Julius II.
The Gallery of Maps, created in 1580, features topographical maps of Italy, offering a unique 16th-century perspective of the country. The Gallery of Candelabra, once an open loggia, houses ancient sculptures and candelabra. In the Gallery of Tapestries, you will admire Flemish tapestries woven by Raphael's pupils. The tour culminates in the Sistine Chapel, where you will marvel at Michelangelo's frescoes. 

St. Peter's Basilica and Square
Next, you will move to St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world and the center of Catholicism. 
Here, if you decide to have a visit on your own, you will see Michelangelo's Pietà, sculpted when he was just 24 years old, and Bernini's massive baldachin over the papal altar.
The tour will include an explanation of the Basilica from outside.
