Monreale is a small hillside town near Palermo, home to one of Sicily's greatest treasures, the Unesco heritage–listed Cathedral. Built in the 12th century, it is one of the greatest examples of Norman architecture in Europe, and its interiors shimmer with stunning mosaics covering a total surface of over 6,000 square meters.
